"And there came a time when the risk of remaining closed tight in a bud far outweighed the risk it took to bloom." - Anais Nin
Sally's yoga classes are fun, motivating and full of laughter. Yoga is serious stuff, but there's a huge benefit when you can make yoga more enjoyable and approachable. Kids and teens connect with Sally because she maintains a judgement free zone, where each individual is respected, nurtured and challenged. Today's kids are stressed out beyond the norm, the focus is on being the best at everything. They are on overload. In Sally's yoga classes, everyone is perfect. Sally emphasizes how breathing is therapeutic and how it can change the way kids react to stress. Sally explains her yoga philosophy, "The benefits of yoga offer so much healing and calm energy for the anxiety and overload that kids experience today. When they learn how to coordinate the breath with yoga postures, it has a way of calming the mind and allows the movements to release tension in the body."
"When my students are not in yoga class and they are faced with challenges of everyday life, I want them to remember that no matter where they are, no matter how low they get, they have the skills from yoga to turn things in their favor. Yoga is a way of life that kids can easily learn to adapt to their lives."
Kids are fun, playful and energetic. They want a social, exciting, creative outlet to express their love of life and natural curiosity. Sally's yoga classes provide a wonderful opportunity for kids to do just that.
The teenage years can be full of upheaval, change and uncertainty. Yoga can provide an anchor amidst those storms and can channel some of that negativity into very positive outcomes. Sally is passionate about ensuring that her students feel good about themselves. She listens to them and knows that yoga can meet their needs in amazing and creative ways.
Sally's love for yoga began eleven years ago when she was pregnant with her first child. Living in London, England at the time she was drawn to the buzz in her Nottinghill neighborhood about the many splendors of yoga. She joined a pre-natal yoga class and discovered it's wonders and joys. Sally continued practicing yoga, incorporating many of its benefits into her life. It was several years later when she realized that her children - by now she had three boys - can also benefit from yoga. Being typical rambunctious boys full of high energy, she knew instinctively that yoga would help them to channel their energy in more meaningful ways and to make them more mindful of their bodies, behavior and emotions, as well as more conscious of their inner voice. She began nightly visual meditations with them as well, to enable them to enter a relaxed, open, happy state as they entered dreamland. Her children loved these nightly meditations.
Wanting more children to become captivated by the magic of yoga, Sally took a Radiant Child Teacher Training course and now teaches yoga to kids and teens.
Sally lives passionately, laughs often and shares her zest for life with her three active, boisterous boys and wonderful husband.Copyright 2009 Waterfall Yoga. All rights reserved.
